It all started with a beautiful 2-year old Golden Retriever Mix named Bailey!

Bailey was a rescue from Mississippi. In 2017, we adopted her from Southern Paws rescue in New Jersey, and she was ready to fill our hearts with love and challenges! Bailey’s puppy years appeared tough, so early on we had to work through food aggression and separation anxiety while also learning that she didn’t get along well with other furry friends. We learned fast that traditional boarding was not going to work for Bailey. The idea of Rusty Red Dog Adventures was born!

Rusty Red Dog Adventures Owner, Kristina Lucero-Wehner, has always been an animal lover! Her dream was always to work with pets and care for them in the best possible way. When Bailey challenged her to think differently than her past pets, Kristina knew she wanted to provide her community members, that had pets going through similar challenges, with quality pet care. Kristina believes pets are at their best when they get to explore their environment and feel safe. She loves taking them on adventures and her in-home overnight pet care ensures that pets can remain in their own home, comfortable and safe, even when mom and dad are away.

Five years later, and Rusty Red Dog Adventures continues to grow! Kristina has experience with all different breeds and temperaments of pets, as well as those who may need medication or have special needs. Kristina battled through COVID to keep her business alive, and used that time to educate herself on pet body language, CPR/First Aid, medication distribution and a variety of other topics.
